William D. Matthews, Ph.D.
Bill Matthews is Vice President of R&D Management Operations for Johnson and Johnson Biotechnology, Immunology and Oncology R&D. Bill is responsible for executive management of project management, business process management, R&D operations and collaboration management to ensure optimal speed and efficiency of new product research and development. Prior to joining Johnson and Johnson in 2001, Bill was Vice President, Project Management and Head of the Cardiovascular, Metabolism and Endocrine Therapeutic Area Team at Novartis. With 31 years experience in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical R&D , Bill has held research (drug discovery) and development (toxicology) scientific and managerial positions of increasing responsibility at a number of companies, including GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis. Bill earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He has authored over 40 scientific publications, review articles, and book chapters, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology, and the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
